When do mosquitoes bite and what diseases do they cause?
"Dr Amita Jain, Head of the Department of Microbiology, King George's Medical University, is telling about this."
How mosquitoes spread disease?
“Mosquitoes spread some diseases. Mosquitoes do not spread disease, but on the bite of a mosquito, they put some parasites inside us, which cause disease. In malaria, mosquitoes spread the germ of malaria to humans and who has got malaria Cut it again and spread it to the other person.
We call such animals vectors, they do not cause any disease by themselves, but they work to spread the disease from here to there. Malaria does not spread to anyone like this, rather the mosquito first puts the germ of malaria in one person, then takes it out and puts it in another person, then this disease spreads. So one must be careful with mosquitoes as they spread the disease from here to there.” Dr Amita said.
Mosquito does not bite
Human blood is sucked by female mosquitoes because female mosquitoes require a lot of energy to lay eggs. They suck blood not only of humans but also of some animals. The female mosquito needs blood. Male mosquitoes do not suck blood, so they do their work with the sap of trees and plants.
Which mosquitoes bite during the day and which at night ?
"Some mosquitoes bite during the day. Mosquitoes that bite during the day are the Aedes mosquito. This mosquito bites in the early morning, at sunset, when there is a slight haze. This mosquito bites during the day, so people get it. It is said that wear full sleeved clothes, so that mosquitoes can not bite you, because during the day you will not sleep with mosquito nets.
The bite of this mosquito spreads diseases like dengue. Some mosquitoes bite after dusk i.e. when it is dark like Culex, Anopheles. These mosquitoes carry diseases like malaria, Japanese encephalitis. Day or night you must avoid mosquitoes.”
Few of the most common mosquitoes caused diseases are given below.
Zika Virus
Yellow Fever
Chikungunya
It is a viral disease that is caused by Aedes bite .Aedes is a type of mosquito that bites mostly at daytime. This disease does not spread directly from human to human. That is, it is not an infectious disease. A pregnant woman with chikungunya is at risk of passing the disease to her baby.
SYMPTOMS
Having high fever Sometimes the infected person gets fever up to 102 degrees which can last from two days to 7 days.
Severe pain and swelling in the joints of the feet, hands, wrists and body.
Severe headache and tiredness all over the body.
To have a sore throat
Back pain persists.
Malaria
Malaria is a disease caused by the bite of an Anopheles female mosquito. These mosquitoes are more during the rainy season. Because rain water remains stored for a long time and this water becomes dirty and contaminated. This is where the malaria mosquito originates. A person starts getting malaria fever after being bitten by the mosquito. The bacteria of the Anopheles female mosquito sting enter the blood of a person and affect their cells and they become unwell.
Causes
The main cause of malaria is the Anopheles female mosquito, which causes malarial fever. Most malaria infections in India are caused by Plasmodiumvivax and Plasmodium Falciparum. In this Plasmodium Falciparum is the most dangerous ,can lead to death.
Dengue
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, dengue infection is a common problem occurring in more than 100 countries around the world and approximately 3 billion people live in areas affected by dengue. These include India and other parts of Southeast Asia, China, Africa, Taiwan and Mexico.
According to the data released by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP), over 67,000 dengue cases were registered in India alone in the year 2019. The report also revealed that 2017 was the worst year for India in terms of dengue. Around 1.88 lakh dengue cases were registered in 2017, out of which 325 people lost their lives due to it.
