It is a zoonotic disease means A zoonosis (plural zoonoses, or zoonotic diseases) is an infectious disease caused by a pathogen (an infectious agent, such as a bacterium, virus, parasite or prion) that has jumped from an animal (usually a vertebrate) to a human.
But human to human transmissions have also been seen. It was first appeared in Malaysia and victims were mainly related to pig farming. It arised in India many a times at different places.

Incubation period for Nipah Virus ranges from 2 weeks to 45 days.
How does Nipah Spread?
It can be transmitted through a lot of ways and most primary carriers are infected pigs, bats ,saliva & feaces.
According to WHO
" Fruit products contaminated with urine or saliva of infected Fruit Bats may have caused the outbreak of Nipah Virus in India and Bangladesh"
It can also spread through respiratory and body secretion which leads to the most of the cases in Himan to Human transmission of Nipah Virus.
Treatment & Cure
As of now there is no Vaccine or Medicine for Nipah Virus. However intensive care and symptomatic treatment is provided to patients.
Only cure to Nipah is Prevention.
Basic prevention
1) Quarantine the lively stock in case of outbreak.
2) Wash your hands regularly with soap.
3) Wash fruits and vegetables well before use.
4) Avoid meat during outbreak.
5) Avoid entering abandoned places.
