viparita karani

Viparita Karani (Legs-up-the-wall pose)
Viparita Karani is a mild pose to relax your body. This asana will improve blood circulation and make you look younger.

Yoga Quote of the Day“ The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body.” — Jason Crandell.
Viparita Legs-up-the-Wall Pose is another name for Karani, however viparita means "inverted," and karani means "in movement." This might be interpreted to suggest that the stance reverses the actions that occur in our bodies when we sit and stand.
Level:  Beginner/ Intermediate

Equipment Required: Yoga Mat.
Procedure-
1) Place yourself on the floor, facing a wall. Lying on your side, lower your shoulders and head to the floor. Then flip onto your back and stretch your legs up the wall, keeping your feet hip-width apart or at a comfortable distance.
2) By squeezing your tailbone against the wall, you can improve your posture. It isn’t necessary for it to come into contact with the wall.
3) Relax your arms and shoulders by placing them at your sides in a comfortable position with palms turned up. Lean against the wall and relax your legs. Let go of all your efforts. Your femurs may begin to sink into your hip sockets. Feel the lengthening of your spine. For at least 10 minutes, stay in the pose and breathe.
4) Bend your knees and roll to one side to exit the pose. Remain here for a few breaths before slowly pushing yourself back up to sat using the strength of your arms.
Benefits
1-Alleviates headaches.
2-Boosts energy.
3-Soothes menstrual cramps (some yoga traditions advice against doing Viparita Karani during menstruation)
4-Relieves lower-back pain.
5- Relaxes blood vessels and maintains blood pressure.
